The Nun Kun Escapade
The Nun Kun Escapade is a Journey through the some of the Great Himalayan Wildernesses Still mostly untouched by Tourism.
The Nun Kun Massiff with its Twin Peaks of Nun and Kun if the Tallest Mountain Massiff in the Kashmir Himalayas with the Nun standing at 7135 m amsl and the Kun at 7036 m amsl. Its bound in the North by the Suru Valley and the Drang Drung Glacier at The Pensi La Pass which seperates the Suru Valley and Zanskar.
In the South its bound by the Kishtwar National Park and the Warwan Valley which connects with the Suru Valley through the Bhotkol Pass. The Nun Kun Massiff and its surrounding areas have been popular with Mountaineers but few outsiders have ventured Into these Valleys which lie on either side of the Great Himalayan Range.
The Nun Kun Escapade takes you to these fascinating Himalayan Valleys and through the Passes and the Valleys which connect them. It gives you a unique perspective of Travelling through all the three divisions of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir viz the Kashmir Valley in Kashmir Division, the Warwan Valley in Kishtwar in the Jammu Division and the Suru Valley in the Kargil district of Ladakh.
And amazingly the Nun Kun Peaks, such is their prominence that You can spot them from points in all these 3 Divisions. The Nun Kun Peaks are very prominent when one flies into Srinagar. And then they are visible from the top of the Margan Pass which connects Kashmir Valley with the Warwan Valley in Kishtwar. But the best view of the Nun Kun Peaks is from Panikhar and Parkachik in the Suru Valley where the Massiff rises like a colossal Pyramid and goes well over 7000 meters. It’s a view people seldom forget.
The Journey starts in Srinagar in Kashmir and ends there as well. Its convenient for one to fly into Srinagar and out. Alternately the Itinerary can be Customised and the end point can be Leh in Ladakh.
The Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrival at Srinagar. From Srinagar to Kokernag. Stay at the Tourism Huts in the scenic Kokernag Garden. Distance 85 kms. 2 Hours.
Day 2 : Early Morning Departure from Kokernag towards the Margan Pass. Margan Pass connects Kashmir with the Warwan Valley in Kishtwar. On a clear Day you get a great view of the Nun Kun Peaks from the top of the Pass. Cross the Margan Pass into the Warwan Valley. Move to the Village of Inshan. Night Stay at Inshan Homestay
Day 3 : Local Sightseeing in Warwan Valley as we move North into the Valley till wherever the Road conditions let us Travel. Night Stay at Inshan Homestay

Day 4 : Early Morning starts and we crossover the Margan Pass once again and head toward Srinagar. Night Stay in Srinagar at Lake View Suites.
Day 5 : Morning Start from Srinagar and we head towards the Zoji La Pass crossing which we enter the Kargil District in Ladakh. We head towards Panikhar Homestay (Magpie Nest) in the Suru Valley.
Day 6: We drive through the Suru Valley and go all the way from Panikhar and Parkachik and get a grand view of the Nun Kun Peaks. We travel all the way to the Pensi La Pass which connects Suru Valley with Zanskar and get great views of the Drang Drung Glacier. Night Stay at Panikhar Homestay ((Magpie Nest) in the Suru Valley.
Day 7 : From Panikhar return to Kargil and Drass and go down the Zoji La Pass and into Kashmir. Stay at Sonamarg / Srinagar depending on your onwards Plan.
