Kupwara

It is totally enclosed by the Baramulla & Bandipora Districts on the other side.A richly endowed district with lush Green forests, Kupwara also has the River Kishanganga originating from the Himalayas flowing through the outer areas. It is home to the beautiful Lolab, Bangus, Karnaw, Machil, Keran & Drangayi.
Karnah
Soak in the warmth of serene and picturesque Valleys while cocooned in the fresh breeze at Karnah. Here the Hills await your presence to recite a History that most of us do not know. There are indications of settlements in the Karnah Valley going back to 3000 years. It is a mesmerising Valley with Green Meadows and Mountains. Karnah lies in the most Northwestern part of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On the Road from Kupwara one has to cross a difficult Mountain Pass to the Northwest of Kupwara at an altitude of 10,000 feet called Sadhna Gali or Pass in the Shamsbari Mountain Range.
As per the Gazetteer of Kashmir and Ladakh, 1890 : A district lying north-west of Kashmir, on the south side of the Kishan Gangs; it comprises the valleys of the Kazi Nag and Shamshabari streams, which unite about 3 miles east of Titwal, where they flow into the Kishanganga river. These valleys are very fruitful and extensively cultivated; the grassy mountains by which they are surrounded are, for the most part, bare of forest, and of inconsiderable elevation except to the East and South sides. The northern portion of the Valley is traversed by the road between Shalurah and the village of Titwal, on the left bank of the Kishanganga ; the path lies through the Nattishanaar Gali during the summer months, and by the Kukma GaIi in winter.
Tithwal
On the banks of the tranquilly flowing Kishenganga in the Karnah Valley lies the Village of Tithwal. Here you can peacefully admire the calm and the tranquil Environment with indulgent greens that let you enjoy the gift of Mother Nature in all their Glory. Tithwal is about 93 kms from Kupwara Town and is of historical importance in light of its geographical location of the LoC and presently being used as crossing /meeting point for General public of both sides of Kashmir. The Road to Tithwal from Kupwara is a macadamized road which Passes through the breathtaking vistas of Drangayri Meadows nd Sadhna Top which is located at an altitude of 10,000 feet.
As per the Gazetteer of Kashmir and Ladakh, 1890 : A village situated on the left bank of the Kiebnn Omp, jmt hove the junction of the Kazi Nig etream, up which lie. the road leading into the Knrnao valley. It is situated about midway between MozafaraMd aod shJ6mh ; the former place the journey ia rough and difficult, and impable forhden b the latter then ia an excellent path cr-ing the Ndti8hPr Oa\i.
Saidpur Village
At Saidpur experience the calm and nature’s peace flow into you as sushine flows into trees, and let the winds blow their own freshness into you. Located on the LoC, Saidpur brings a rich history to life. It is famous for the Ziarat Shareif of Peer Mitha Sahib where people come to pay their respects. It is located on the other side of the loC and is mostly visited during the months of June and July every year.
Sadhna - Phirken Road Link
The Sadhna Phirken Road link takes you on a Trek through the breathtaking picturesque panorama of both sides of Kashmir. You will be greeted by wild flora, lush green meadows, dense forests are some of the exquisite natural attractions here. The famous places all along the Road are Dana Ziyarat Shareif, Budinamal Village, Dumari Pass, Raja Ram Mountains and Sita Saran. These places find their description aptly in the books like Rajtarangani written by Kulhan and the Gazetteer of Kashmir written by Charles Alison Bates.
Trehgam
9 Kilometers to the West of Kupwara, lies a Village of unparalleled beauty. Nestled in the lap of the Mountains this peaceful Village is also home to Shiv Nag. As Sir Walter Lawrence once so eloquently wrote, “The Pond of Trehgam indicates the utmost beauty of Kashmir”, you can see the Quote come true when you are visiting the place. The Shiv Nag located in the Village is a symbol of Hindu Muslim unity. The Muslim Shrine, Jamia Masjid and the Shiv Temple are both located on the same bank of the Spring and both the communities treat them as sacred and with utmost respect.
Tummina
A small Village located on the River banks of the Khamil Nallaha, is known for its picturesque and breathtaking views and is famous for picnics. The Village is in close proximity to some exquisitely beautiful places like Hachamarg and Phalmarg both considered to be Hill Stations of immense beauty and are famous for their Vegetable cultivation.
Machil is a charming Valley sheltered in the East of Kupwara District, Jammu and Kashmir. Covered in lush Green Forests it is an ideal destination for Group picnickers and Trekkers. Rest Houses are available for a comfortable Stay and to spend time in this mesmerising place. Machil has some of the most breathtaking Meadows and it is surrounded by the Mountains of Nuwan. Machil consists of 15 Villages and is 52 kms away from the main Town of Kupwara. Machil lies nuzzled in the most Northwestern part of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Village of Keran is aid to have been established by Raja Bhaudar Khan in the 10th Century. Also located on the Bank of the Kishanganga River, Keran enjoys a majestic view. To reach Keran Valley one has to Pass through the Firkin Gali. It is 37 kilometres west from Kupwara, 89 kilometres from Kralpora and 118 kilometres from the state Capital of Srinagar. On the way to Keran other places of interest are Milyal, Raja Ram Mountains, Firkin Village, Kralpora, Trehgam and Khirbhawani Temple at Tikker, Kupwara.
From Firkin Gali, a Road link connects it with the Sadhna Top and is known for its mesmerising and enchanting beauty on both sides of Kashmir. On the way you can witness the lush Green forests, Meadows, Streams and also the ancient Architecture.
