Gulmarg Peak Spotting

The Shiva or the Maharani Temple in Gulmarg with the Mahadev Range in the background. On the right, the pyramid Peak is none other than the highest Peak of the Kashmir Valley, Kolahoi. Interestingly the Mahadev is a part of the Zabarwan, which is a sub Range of the Zanskar Mountain Range. Mt. Kolahoi itself is on the Great Himalayan Range and Gulmarg itself lies in the Pir Panjals. This shows how entangled the Ranges get. Gulmarg and the Apharwat offer the best views of the Peaks in the Valley. From the Nanga Parbat Massif in the west to the Haramukh to the mighty twins Nun Kun and the Brahma and the Sickle Moon in the Kishtwar Himalayas. You may need to know where to look

This is the Nanga Parbat zoomed out as it appears from Gulmarg, just below the Nanga Parbat view point. Technically the Nanga Parbat lies in Gilgit Baltistan and not Kashmir. But in this pic you can actually see a large part of the main Valley and even the Wular Lake is visible on the right very faintly. The Nanga Parbat Massif just stands out with its massive size and the elevation. A fitting end to the main Himalayan Range in the west. Pic from April 2016. Gulmarg, Kashmir
