What used to keep us warm in Kashmir and still keeps people warm in Kashmir.

An old Kangri, more than 30 years old atleast, that belonged to my Grandmother that I found at home this time.

It's basically a basket made of wicker with a clay pot kept inside. Burning charcoal is put inside the clay pot and toss is used to keep the hands warm. Used in combination with a Pheran it works as a complete body warming device as the heat radiated by the Kangri is trapped inside the Pheran. The perfect weapon to fight the cold in Kashmir.
